Diwali (Deepavali) is the festival of lights symbols the victory of good over evil, brightness
over darkness. Deepavali is a Sanskrit word, deep means light and avali means
row of lights. Whole country is illuminated with rows of lamps, beautiful
lighting on the street, houses and buildings. The festival is celebrated for
four long days in a grand manner with earthen diyas, mouthwatering sweets,
floral decoration, beautiful people dressed in colorful outfits and fireworks
marking the glorious occasion.
Diwali
originated in ancient times leading to various stories connected with many
legends such as Lord Ganesh, Goddess kali. This festival is believed to be the
celebrated for the marriage occasion of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Narayan,
Return of Ram, Sita and Laskman to Ayodhya from their 14 year exile after
fighting demon Ravan and also considered as the harvest festival. People in
India celebrate Diwali for four long days where as Dhan teras is celebrated two
days before the actual festival.
1st
day is known as Naraka Chaturdashi, on this day Lord Krishna along with wife
Satyabhama killed demon Narakasur, 2nd day is Amavasya on this day
Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped in every house, office, business location and
many more with ornaments, beautiful flowers, sweet delicacies and gifts
exchanged with loved ones. 3rd day is Bali Padyami/ Kartik shuddha
padyami on this day King Bali was allowed to come from hell to light lamps and
spread knowledge and vanquish ignorance and darkness. Lord Narayan in his dwarf
state banished the King to hell, 4th day is Bhai dooj/ Yama dvitiya
on this day all the sisters invite their brothers to their homes and treat them
with oil bath, gifts, good lunch and pray for their long life, good health and
prosperity.

Diwali is also a
festival where all friends and family get together for gambling it is believed
that Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva played dice during this festival and she
declared that whoever gambled on this night they would prosper and be in good
wealth throughout the year. This festival of lights will illuminate every
corner of the country where bursting of fireworks will light up the sky with
dazzling colors and happy faces will make this occasion a memorable one. A
divine aura is formed with fragrance of incense sticks, colorful buntings;
delicious sweets will create heaven on earth. Diwali celebration should also
